The Importance of UV Transmittance
|

UV transmissibility is the absorption of UV light by water, particles and dissolved materials. Twenty years ago UV transmittance (UVT) was seldom a topic of
discussion. Today, we can not legitimately select a UV system for a specific application without identifying %UVT.

Marine Harvests Egg Incubation Program
Emperor Aquatics, Inc. would like to congratulate Marine Harvest on the success of their Egg Incubation Program. "There has been some discussion within
the industry about the benefits of upwelling incubation systems", acknowledges Dean Guest, Freshwater Operations Manager with Marine Harvest. Emperor
Aquatics, Inc. was proud to manufacture Upwelling Incubation Jars for Marine Harvests' Egg Incubation Program.
Each upwelling incubator "can individually contain as many as about 15,000 fertilized eggs, nearly the equivalent of three trays", and they can individually
"run at different temperatures to speed-up or retard hatching."
Our units have "proven to be a success, cutting labor costs and being easy to
service." The constant up-flow water circulation holds the eggs in constant suspension, eliminating stagnate areas while forcing lighter "dead eggs" to the
top. "Janet Stanford, one of the three personnel who maintain the jars and remove any dead eggs, said that they're easy to remove into a bucket using light
suction from a primed pipette." This drastically cuts down on egg maintenance time, and the incubators themselves "require only very minimal maintenance."
Emperor Aquatics, Inc.'s Upwelling Incubation Jars are made of polycarbonate, ABS with PVC plumbing and are supplied with gate valves for precise
flow control for system customization.

We would also like to thank Hatchery International for providing an informative article about Marine Harvests' facility in the

Clam-Shell Fish Grader is a Success!
4-28-10: We at Emperor Aquatics, Inc. would like to extend a huge Thank You to the Conservation Fund Freshwater Institute, and to Steve Summerfelt for his kind words regarding our Clam-Shell Fish Grader. We are
very proud to see our hard work making someone else's hard work a little less complicated. Read the good news Steve had to report below:
4-23-10: The Clam-Shell Fish Grader that you fabricated for us worked extremely well to top grade, crowd and harvest Yellow Perch. The first harvest that
we used the clam-shell grader, we were able to top grade and harvest an average 225g Perch. The next harvest, we were able to harvest 10,000 fish per hour
using the clam-shell grader and our sidewall harvest box. Thanks to Steve Zimmer, Don Conwell and their colleagues for the quality work, rapid response to our changing needs,
meeting our deadlines and supplying a great product!

Hollings Marine Laboratory
4-23-10: Ten years ago Hollings Marine Laboratory purchased various types of Emperor Aquatics, Inc. filters that include: Fluidized Bed Biological Filters
and Foam Fractionators (Protein Skimmers). Today this equipment is the life-suppport used in their Red Drum Fish Research Program. Photos sent to us by
Mr. Colden Battey reveal that the equipment still looks as if it was recently installed; a result of proper installation, operation and maintenance.
Photo One: View of culture tanks with Emperor Aquatics, Inc. Foam Fractionators and Fluidized Bed Filters in the background.

Photo Two: Emperor Aquatics, Inc. AquaFOAM Foam Fractionator equipped with ozone generator and ORP controller. The Emperor Aquatics, Inc. Fluidized Bed Bio-Filter
is positioned behind the Foam Fractionator with it's effluent discharged and processed by the foam fractionator.
Photo Three: This photo demonstrates how our unique dual-venturi manifold functions. Both venturi's are fitted with valves for easy vacuum adjustments.
Adjusting the venturi vacuum is critical, especially when injecting ozone, allowing the operator to dial-in a precise vacuum that matches the production
capacity of the oxygen concentrator and ozone generator.
This system is fitted with an oxygen concentrator that strips out nitrogen, delivering
92%-98% oxygen to the ozone generator that increases ozone production 3 X's compared to using air. Additionally, using air (that contains 80% nitrogen)
to generate ozone leaves behind a nitric acid by-product that coats and fouls the ozone producing corona cells dramatically reducing the efficiency
of the generator.
Another critical factor addressed by our dual venturi manifold, and delivering a venturi solely to ozone injection is the
elimination of nitrogen from the injection process. Nitrogen goes into solution much easier than ozone gas, and if present during the ozone injection
process, nitrogen can severely reduce ozone solubility.
Photo Four: View of Emperor Aquatics, Inc.'s Fluidized Bed Filters and Foam Fractionator (Protein Skimmer).

Hollings Marine Laboratory is a unique collaboration of governmental and academic agencies including NOAA's National Ocean Service, the
National Institute of Standards and Technology, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, the College of Charleston and the Medical University
of South Carolina.

| The Role of UV Disinfection for Aquatic Applications
11-10-08 While UV has been used for the treatment and disinfection of water for decades by many municipal as well as commercial entities, it has only been the past few years that
the technology has been embraced by the pool and spa industry in the U.S. By now most people are familiar with the term "UV" and understand that a UV system can disinfect
water, but typically, that is where the understanding ends. Fortunately the basic principle is fairly simple and you don't need to be an alchemist to say: "I get it now"...
